One of the more confusing elements of LTE/4G/3G coverage for users in Mexico is which carrier is using which band. There are five internet service providers in Mexico, however, all of them don’t exactly come out and share the operating frequency bands readily for the most part and for consumers.
For the five carriers, only Iusacell does not open the 4G LTE network service, the AT&T, Movistar, Nextel and Telcel are providing 4G LTE network service using LTE band 4 (1700/2100Mhz) and band 2 (1900Mhz). And all the Mexico carriers use 2G GSM 850/1900mhz and 3G UMTS AWS/850/1900Mhz.
For AT&T Mexico (Formerly Iusacell and Nextel Mexico) is a wireless operator Mexican company subsidiary of AT&T Inc., which is headquartered in Mexico City.
For Nextel carrier, LTE coverage is available in Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey.
For Telcel carrier, it is the second company in Latin America to promote a 4G service (under LTE Band 4/1700MHz). It offers 4G LTE service in more than 40 Cities in Mexico: ACAPULCO, AGUASCALIENTES, ATLACOMULCO, CANCUN, CD JUAREZ, CD VICTORIA, CELAYA, CHIHUAHUA, CIUDAD DE MEXICO, CUERNAVACA, CULIACAN, DURANGO, ENSENADA, ESTADO DE MEXICO, GUADALAJARA, HERMOSILLO, IRAPUATO, IXMIQUILPAN, LEON, LOS CABOS, MAZATLAN, MERIDA, MEXICALI, MONTERREY, MORELIA, NOGALES, OAXACA, PACHUCA, PUEBLA, PUERTO VALLARTA, QUERETARO, REYNOSA, SALTILLO, SAN LUIS POTOSI, TAMPICO, TIJUANA, TOLUCA, TOLUCA-TC MEX_TOLUCA, TORREON, TUXTLA GUTIERREZ, VERACRUZ, VILLAHERMOSA, and ZACATECA.S.
Let’s take a look at the specified network frequencies for different carriers in Mexico.
