In the race to get to 5G wireless technology in a real way, China is poised to lead the world. According to the confirmation from the three major operators, the NDRC and other relevant departments have approved China Unicom, China Telecom, and China Mobile to test 5G networks in Beijing and other cities.
China Unicom will start 5G tests in Beijing, Tianjin, Qingdao, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Wuhan, Guiyang, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Fuzhou, Zhengzhou, Shenyang and other 4 cities.
China Mobile Company will conduct 5G outdoor field tests in five cities including Hangzhou, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Suzhou and Wuhan, and is going to establish more than 100 5G base stations in each city. This company plans to deploy small-scale "apps demonstration" trials in a dozen other cities, including Beijing, Chengdu and shenzhen.
The 5G trail city is tentatively scheduled to be "6+6", including the six cities previously identified as Xiong’an, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Suzhou, Chengdu, and Lanzhou . In addition, it will add 6 more cities according to the national departments’ requirements of extending the scope of the test.
Recently, Shandong Unicom announced that, , the technical experts is successfully implemented high-speed data transmission on the 5G test network and the rate is up to reach 1.6 Gbps at the communication room of the Shandong branch of Shandong Unicom at 17:09 pm April 18th. This means that the first 5G call from Shandong Unicom was successfully realized and 5G is closer to our daily life.
After the first stage of networking, the peak rate of Shandong Unicom’s 5G network speed will be more than ten times that of 4G. This means that a high-definition movie can be downloaded within one second, and downloading a 30G Blu-ray movie will only take 18.75 seconds. On top of that, the wireless data delay will drop to 1 millisecond dramatically, which means that power self-driving cars, automatic control and other high technologies will really approach the real life from the experimental theory.
It is expected that Shandong Unicom will open the first 5G commercial base station in Shandong Province in the second half of 2018 and complete all trial work in 2019.
As to the 5G mobile device, there isn’t exist right now. The fastest 4G LTE device is 1 Gbps mobile Wi-Fi, Huawei E5788 LTE and Netgear MR1100. Let’s expect new 5G support devices next year.
