5G is Coming: China Unicom to Open 1st 5G Commercial Site

China Unicom’s Guangdong branch and Ericsson opened the domestic first 5G commercial site in Guangzhou’s Pearl River New City. It achieves the world’s first 1Gbps network transmission test and demonstration based on dual-band wireless point system.

The deployment of 5G commercial network site flexibly supports 5G, 4G and 3G multi-standards and multi-band technologies and can help China Unicom to achieve efficient 2G, 3G and 4G spectrum resources integration and simplify the network architecture and win the initiative for 5G.

Through three-carrier aggregation, 4X4 MIMO and 256-QAM technologies, the peak download rate will be increased from 375Mbps in the 4G era to 1Gbps.

The test provides a way for sub-room construction in the future, 70% of the network traffic is from the interior. Ericsson wireless point system can improve mobile data throughput by nearly 5 times, call interruption rate reduced to zero. Ericsson dual-band wireless point system supports 80MHz of 2100MHz + 1800MHz spectrum width, which could achieve the resource integration of spectrum and simplify the network architecture.

The commercial network devices used in the test could provide high application coverage. By adopting three-carrier aggregation, 4X4 MIMO and 256-QAM technologies, the peak download rate will be increased from 375Mbps in the 4G era to 1Gbps.

“In the future of the network society, all things interconnected (net value, information), VR virtual reality , ultra-high-definition video require a higher network rate. Guangdong Unicom will always put user experience In the first place, improve the network quality, and quickly toward the new era of 5G! ” Network construction department of China Unicom Guangdong company indicated.

“Ericsson is committed to helping operators provide an excellent mobile experience with leading industry solutions that help operators deliver consistent high-performance voice and data,” said Luca Orsini, director of network products for Ericsson Northeast Asia.

Netgear also launched a 5G mobile hotspot,  Netgear Nighthawk M1 MR1100 for 5G network.
